"When the Wind Carried Chatty Away"

"When the Wind Carried Chatty Away"

1 - “An Evening of Color and Curiosity”

In a green field full of colorful flowers that gently swayed in the afternoon breeze, while the sun spilled orange and pink brushstrokes across the sky, lived a toad named Bouncer.

Bouncer was a big, chubby toad, with skin covered in little green warts and big round eyes that curiously watched the bluebells swinging to the rhythm of the wind.

Not far from there, right next to a garden where the leaves of crunchy carrots whispered in the soft air current and the fresh lettuces rippled like little green waves, a small, bright green grasshopper named Chatty was enjoying his last leaf of the day, clinging to it while a light breeze tickled his antennae.

2 - “Don’t Eat Me—Listen to Me Instead!”

Bouncer, with his heavy and quiet steps, approached the garden. His belly growled loudly—he was really hungry!

Suddenly, his eyes landed on Chatty, who was calmly chewing his leaf— and even the leaf seemed to be vibrating in the growing breeze! “Mmm, what a juicy bite!” thought Bouncer, licking his lips with his long sticky tongue as he noticed the nearby daisy petals bowing as if in a polite greeting.

He crept closer, and just as he was about to shoot out his tongue to catch Chatty, the grasshopper spotted him—and quickly began to speak in a high-pitched, cheerful voice that was barely audible over the rising rustle of the wind through the leaves:

—“Hey there, big guy! Can you feel the joy in the air? What a wonderful evening, right? I love these sunsets—when the sky looks like a giant canvas and the wind paints with the most beautiful colors. Don’t you like how the wheat stalks dance?”

Bouncer froze—he had never heard a grasshopper talk so much! And now, with the wind beginning to whistle softly, it seemed even more amazing.

    —“Uh… hi,” said Bouncer, a little confused. “I... I came to... well…”

—“Watch the branches move like giant arms waving at the sun?” interrupted Chatty, hopping onto a slightly swaying carrot. “They're my favorite neighbors! So orange and crunchy. Did you know they have tons of vitamins that are great for your eyes? Maybe that’s why your eyes are so big and pretty! Look, look how the leaves are swaying! It's like they’re clapping for us!”

Bouncer felt a fresh breeze on his bumpy skin.

—“Well, actually…” Bouncer began, remembering his hunger as he watched a butterfly struggling against the strengthening wind.

—“Oh, wait!” exclaimed Chatty. “Have you tried the lettuce leaves in this garden? They’re like silk! And so fresh-tasting… We could try them together! Look how they bend with the wind—they look like green waves! Do you like lettuce, big guy?”

Chatty kept talking nonstop, telling Bouncer how the wind played among the leaves, lifting little whirlwinds of dust and making the wildflowers bow and rise as if playing hide-and-seek.

Bouncer listened closely, forgetting all about his hunger, fascinated by how everything around him seemed to come alive with the strength of the wind. The way Chatty spoke was so funny and lively, it made him chuckle inside.

He realized Chatty wasn’t just a snack—he was a very funny grasshopper, and it felt like the wind itself was celebrating their meeting!

3 - “A Friend in the Air and a Full Heart”

In the end, Bouncer felt his toad heart soften. He couldn’t eat Chatty, that little grasshopper who seemed to enjoy the wind as much as Bouncer enjoyed a good splash. He had become his new friend.

They spent a while chatting and laughing together, feeling the wind play with their bodies as the sun disappeared behind the mountains, painting the clouds purple and gold.

Suddenly, when Bouncer’s belly growled loudly again and he looked at Chatty with eyes that said “I’m really hungry,” the wind, which had been playful until then, turned into a powerful gust. Trees creaked, flowers bent to the ground, and the wind howled fiercely.

—“Hold on tight, Bouncer!” shouted Chatty, his antennae waving wildly as the wind lifted him off the ground like a feather.

An even stronger gust blew through, pushing the leaves with force and lifting dust and little twigs. Before Bouncer could do anything—Chatty was swept away like a green leaf carried by an invisible giant!

—“Goodbye, Bouncer! Hold on! See you when the wind settles!” came Chatty’s voice from afar, fading into the sound of the wind, as he disappeared into the sky that now turned dark.

Bouncer stood still, looking toward where his new friend had flown, feeling the strong wind on his face. His belly was still growling, but there was a smile on his toad mouth. He knew that even though the playful wind had taken Chatty away, they would surely meet again in that field where the flowers danced and the wind told stories.

And next time, instead of trying to eat him, they would share the wind’s dance—and enjoy the sunsets together!
